For durability and heat control I've filled the end caps with epoxy as you can see here. This is the bottom of the unit which has a very thin PVC bottom which was suppose to be knocked out for plumbing use. By filling it with epoxy I've reinforced the strength and it should take heat much better too. Once you mix the epoxy it takes a while to set, but really beefs things up a lot. I used fiberglass epoxy here. I don't know how durable this will be, but I'll post my results here on how well this worked out in actual use. I did also add fiberglass cloth for strength. If doing this make sure and sand the inside surface of the PVC first so the epoxy can get good adhesion.
