Here you can see how I slid the slotted stainless steel plates into position. You may have difficulty seeing, but at the bottom of the bolts under the extra nut is a neoprene washer to seal it air-tight. The wing nuts enable me to connect the electrical leads easily and also make it easy to switch polarity from time to time to extend the life of my plates. It was more tricky than it appeared to install the plates as I did have to grind some more metal out of the slots to get a good fit without forcing things.
